I will be relocating to take a job in an office building on 900 Ashwood Parkway in the Central Perimeter/Dunwoody area of Atlanta. I will be looking to purchase a house in the area and generally have no knowledge of the area or housing market. My criteria is suburban, reasonable commute, safe, affordable, and biggest bang for the buck. Schools are not a consideration as children are grown. I don't need to be in the trendy area with the high end amenities or have a big house. Essentially a single family 3 bedroom ranch house in the $200-$250 range in the suburbs. Simple, basic, affordable, safe, and reasonable commute.

At what communities would you recommend I look? Is there public transportation that services the area?

Any other recommendations you have would be greatly appreciated.

It will be challenging to find a house in Sandy Springs/Dunwoody for that budget, the median home values are much higher. Still, not impossible, and if you don't mind fixing some things yourself might be a good opportunity.

I would look at Roswell. Its to the north of Sandy Springs and is generally more affordable while still an affluent area.

For public transportation there is Marta around Perimeter center, but it doesn't extend into neighboring Cobb/Gwinnett counties so youll have to stay in Fulton county if you want public transit.

Unfortunately the area your commuting to is one of the most congested in the area, and will likely only get worse.

MARTA's 150 bus runs from the Dunwoody station right past your workplace. It runs every 30 minutes during peak hours.

I probably could have been clearer in my original post. I am not looking to live in the Dunwoody area, but rather something that offers a reasonable commute to that area and fits my other criteria. Roswell seems like a good fit. Are there any other areas I should be looking at?
