Atlanta Streetcar shut down after car crash shut off power - Atlanta Business Chronicle


The Atlanta Streetcar was shut down for two and a half hours Thursday after a car being chased by a state trooper crashed into a power pole, shutting off power to the streetcar.
A state trooper was chasing a stolen BMW. a crash "caused a light pole to fall on the overhead streetcar wires. Service was restored around 12:30 p.m."

Why didnt we just get electric buses?

Atleast then, you woudlnt need tracks, power lines, etc.

and would had saved MILLIONS!.

They even have WIFI on them..

Schedule

For high-frequency routes (<= 10-minute frequency, which the streetcar has), rail/streetcar is actually cheaper long-term.

Rail obviously has high costs up front, but if you annualize the costs over a long period of time (say, 30+ years), rail is ultimately cheaper since rail cars require less maintenance, no tires, less energy, and they last far, far longer than buses. It's an investment.

Let me get this straight: Somebody was running from the cops, crashed into a streetcar pole, and shut down the streetcar.

And it's the streetcar's fault.
