I think it's also a way of saying thanks for putting up with the construction delays.
3 months sounds a little crazy to me. It sounds to me like there may be concern that ridership may be far lower than expected thus the need to offer free rides for such an extended period of time. Besides, it's not like Atlanta is a city that has been bereft of public transit for decades. It's had a heavy rail system since the 1970s. If you are not familiar with the concept of public transit in the Atlanta metro region, it's simply because you don't want to take transit for whatever reason. One could argue that a streetcar is a whole different can of worms compared to a subway system, but I don't find that argument persuasive in the least.

Do you mean a VMF?

If you're talking about what VMF stands for, VMF stands for "Vehicle Maintenance Facility".

...Which is one of the major reasons that this section of the streetcar line was funded first....So that the streetcars can connect with the vehicle maintenance and storage facility which is located under the I-75/I-85 viaduct between Auburn and Edgewood avenues.

First we talk about the downtown streetcar and how it is doing not so bad in its first month of operation.
Then we debate that.
Then someone attempts to derail the thread via trolling.
Then he gets outed.
Then we discuss the pros and cons of what may have happened to his alternate account.

All this in a Streetcar thread.

I ****ing love this forum.

Exactly, we can build a crucial facility for the system, without taking up valuable land and using dead space
A win-win.

Yes, I did mean VMF. Thanks for the explanation.

From today's AJC: choo choo ridership is 18% lower than expected during free ride period and operating costs are now projected to be 50% higher than thought.

Poor opening schedule during the cold winter months could be part of the issue. People are less likely to stand in the weather waiting on transit. I think this is why the mayor is pushing for an extension to the Eastside Trail ASAP.
