Well aren't you a ray of sunshine.

It must be awful to go through life carrying around such unhealthy thoughts. If you would like help finding a counselor to help 'get you right,' let me know and I'll be glad to help. Mental health in this country is a top public safety issue.

The big question mark for me has always been fundings. Seems all the supporters are banking on waiting for federal funds which can be a slow slow process to build out the system (If your lucky). Cities that are being aggressive like Seattle has choosen to tax themselves to make it happen and not rely on federal money. The history here has been to put applications in for federal funds with little of our own money. This is why the original streetcar application was turned down (would have went down peachtree in midtown)

What is this funding source that is already secured? I thought by now the Mayor would have announced some funding options as there has been talk about this for about 2 years now.

Beltline TAD. Rumor is they are planning to issue bonds on it to accelerate projects if the APS issue gets resolved in a fair way.

The Peachtree line was turned down for federal funds because there is already a MARTA line in the same corridor. Feds will not pay for duplicate service. The proposal was only from five points to arts center. Also, the Obama administration added in economic development as a way for projects to receive funds.

Corporate Atlanta needs to cough up some money to help this as well. After all, if they want the "talent" they should do everything to make their lives better so they will stay and help them in return. Some of these companies are building in the city now and moving workers to the core because they say they want to help traffic and return to an urban platform. Let them help bring that about. For a Fortune 500 company, a few million is pocket change.

I am not trying to start an argument but it was pretty clear (at least publicly) at the time that they did not win (even when smaller cities did) because Atlanta had no skin in the game. They essentially were asking for 99% federal funding whereas other applications had more skin in the game. Federal officials commented publicly on this and the Mayor and others are on record saying they learned their lesson and had more local money in the winning bid that produced the current street car.

Well then we should all give them their due and thanks for what they have already coughed up as you say. Coke, Home Depot, Wells Fargo, Turner,Georgia Power, BB&T, Kaiser all have contributed.
