51,000 have ridden Atlanta Streetcar in its first month - Atlanta INtown Paper
More than 51,000 people have ridden the streetcar in less than a month. A lot has to do with it being free, but at this point it hard to call it a failure.

This is pretty awesome. Do they plan on keeping it free forever? Are there plans to expand the route?

At a 5% cost of investment (extremely low), that results in a monthly cost of $408,000 on the investment. Based on the free ridership (which was below their published readership expectation of 2,500 a day) each ride cost over $8 before even factoring in operating and maintenance costs.

Even when FREE and when factoring in the newness and initial 'I want to ride this thing' crowd, ridership was just about 1,800 a day. $100 million for 1,800 daily rides.

This doesn't sound like a success to me.

No. Yes.

End of March the fare will be $1 or $3 for the day.

Expansion plan here: http://beltline.org/wp-content/uploa...ort-022514.pdf

Next phase is already partially funded. Expect to see some more action on the funding side of this later this year.

Partially funded?

That is like "kinda pregnant." Either the money is there or it isn't... and it isn't.

Not even close to the same thing, but you go on thinking that.

Part of it is there. To use pregnancy as an example, it's like saying someone is four months pregnant. It's partially there and the rest is guaranteed unless tragedy strikes.

Bad analogy.

It is a 1 or 0 deal.

So maybe the funding sperm is halfway to the egg?
