Home Depot should build a super tower and move to Midtown.
They are the last company that would ever do that. Won't. Ever. Happen.

In any case, always amusing to see the "free market" wingnuts here w h o r e themselves with our money.

The poor quality of reporting on this is breathtaking. Cobb County is not "giving The Home Depot $200 million." These are industrial development revenue bonds. The Home Depot is borrowing the money. Sometimes a municipality, county or state will issue such bonds directly and sometimes they'll just facilitate or sponsor the issue through financial institutions. Among other advantages to the company, municipal sponsorship makes the bonds tax exempt. You can look here or look it up Wikipedia or Investopedia, if you like.

The DACC assists prospective relocating or expanding companies that meet certain criteria by serving as a financing conduit that issues Industrial Development Revenue Bonds that help companies borrow money from traditional lending institutions to finance their relocation or expansion costs. Since these loans and/or bonds are held by qualified financial institutions, those institutions have the financial risks in these projects and not the Development Authority or the County. Therefore, no county taxpayer dollars are involved in the issuance of these bonds. Having this capability is critical as it reduces the cost of project financing for the company.
The Home Depot is getting tax advantages and help from the county in securing financing. Cobb County taxpayers are not handing them free money. In return, The Home Depot has agreed to spend the $200 million in borrowed money in Cobb County.

Sounds like free money to me. My guess is that they smelled the blood in the water with the Braves deal.

Isn't the Weather channel in Cobb Co and about to move?

Thank you for posting something actually factual on this. The MDJ and AJC minions are desperate for attention and nothing gets the attention of unintelligent readers more than "corporation gets taxpayer money."

It's comical that so many people actually think there is a board of 6 county leaders that decide, "yeah, let's take $200 million from school kids/teachers and give it to a corporation so they will remodel an IT facility."

Independent thought and economic literacy are truly dead.

Yes, the Weather Channel is located in Cobb, just across 75 from the new stadium. And no, they are not moving.

Newsflash - ALL corporations try to get tax breaks from municipalities. Do think Mercedes is moving from NJ to north Fulton because of southern hospitality?
