So did they ever shutdown MARTA or not? I actually called customer service to see if I'd need to take an alternate longer route home because when I was traveling, the President was literally on top of the Peachtree Center station and I know they have shut down rail service at other places like that before, but the service ran normally, which is fine. It actually ran better than it normally does (which is not fine).

I used to work at Allen Plaza, and used Civic Center station daily. I was on my way home one night as Obama was leaving town, and watched the motorcade on the Connector below from inside the station. There were a lot of MARTA cops mingling with us, and one told me they only held the trains at North Ave. & Peachtree Center for a minute or two until the motorcade passed under Civic Center.

Civic Center is pretty unique in being a subway station that is also suspended above a major freeway, with sniper access to boot. The President needs to be safe when moving though any major urban area, or anywhere really. On days like this, I am SO glad I work at home.

Probably what they did this time too. Good to know, thanks! Though admittedly holding the trains while still letting people in the station is...not exactly logical, but at least they don't just flat shut things down.

Even though the trains were stopped from serving Civic Center for a few minutes, it was totally safe to allow riders in. There were 5 layers of law enforcement in there!

You obviously didn't see the solid wall of traffic trying to get southbound on the connector yesterday afternoon.

It's funny to see all the bellyaching about the president's visit and all the havoc it was going to cause.
