^^^ Also, I would not mind if they re-opened the movie theater. That would not be a bad idea.

The movie theater on Cobb Pkwy and Cumberland has been re-opened for months now (if that is the movie theater you are referring to)

There used to an AMC movie theater inside of the Cobb Galleria called "AMC Galleria 8". It closed in the early 00s.

Oh wow. It would be cool to open (or reopen) an "arthouse" indy-type theatre in the Cumberland/Vinings area.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. The one that was inside the Galleria next to the parking garage.

We could definitely use some more "art house" cinemas in Atlanta. Alamo Drafthouse would kill here.

Love the special events such as Walking Dead viewings and Die Hard festivals. Asheville had an awesome theater that was at a brewery.

Thats is an excellent idea! Although, I wonder if AMC down the street would start doing Indie nights to compete. The Galleria is a fun place to take a stroll and I can't help to peek in the closed theater. They didn't completely rip out the inner parts, so it's not difficult to depict what it looked like.

Interesting proposal by Sears and Kroger that both will benefit from. The format of this Kroger will likely (and if not, should) cater to the large amount of office workers with a large salad and hot bar, a deli counter, bakery, and quick serve area. The gas station will also likely be a draw.

This proposal will not likely hurt the mall but could leveraged in a much better way. Shedding its suburban identity is the next step in the Cumberland area's maturity and the mall property is at the center of that transformation. The super block should be divided into smaller blocks with new buildings being placed close to the street. The transit center can be placed in a more central area along with improvements to Akers Mill, Cumberland Blvd, Cumberland Pkwy, and Cobb Parkway to ease traffic flow and create a better pedestrian environment. Apartments or hotels can be built above retail with limited or no dedicated parking which will support foot traffic and use of transit. Over time, better connections should be made to the Braves Stadium and the Performing Arts Center.

When Parkway Pointe was first proposed it was not originally an AMC - it was GNC or whatever the letters used to be (I can still hear that catchy little tune in my head).

The theater was replacing the one that used to be at Akers Mill. But GNC (or whatever) filed bankruptcy and AMC jumped in and took over the space. They were already looking at upgrading or moving.

That is when the Galleria location closed.

I would love an art house movie theater as well!

Considering they had pretty good food and a bar, I always wished the Parkway Pointe AMC did some hybrid fork-and-spoon thing at the top of each theater room, but alas having just redone all their seating to that oh so comfy electronic armchair-of-the-future type things, I guess that's not gonna happen.

I guess I can only hope they add more fork-and-spoon menu choices over time.
