If you enjoy biking the cycling community in Atlanta is growing and full of great people that all have cycling in common. Join a sports league. Get to know your neighbors.

This! Meetup has all sorts of groups ranging from volunteering and outdoor activities and sports to social gatherings, bowlings, pub crawls to religious groups and what not. Meeting new people, making new friends in a new town/setting can take some time and that's okay, you have to make sure you put yourself out there, have an open mind, get to know people, get others to know you and who you are and over time start identifying, filtering out the folks or groups that you identify/associate with most. Welcome to Atlanta and best wishes, I moved here last August and loving it! Was busy with work/settling down for the first few months but starting to get out now and starting to see more and more familiar faces and build new contacts/friends.

Cheers
Ron

1. Have interests that force you to get out of the house and be around other people.
2. Strike up a conversation with some of those people.

I don't really see this as an Atlanta-specific question; making new social connections can happen anywhere. How you go about doing that will always remain the same. Whether you're into beer-league baseball, Texas Holdem poker, model rocketry, flow arts, or obliquely mentioning your hobbies in C-D.com threads, there are no strangers [not even among introverts]; only friends you haven't met yet.

Im not religious. I mostly met people via work and school along with volunteer worth. I joined Hands on Atlanta and worked in various places with volunteer teams years ago and met a lot of nice folks. I think the program was called TeamWorks.

Yeah - I pretty much met people through my jobs, and then met other people through them, and also Social networking. That became a bigger deal, once I bought my own home, and my community turned out to have a robust social networking presence. Got involved in the community and met a ton of people that way too - both in and out of my community, as it turns out.

Easter is a wonderful time to find a "right-fit" church. So many visitors in the Easter season, time of renewal and Christ's resurrection. Great time to start new acquaintances and friendships. ;0)
