I'm going to Atlanta for a convention and decided to try airbnb for the first time, it's a 50/50 feeling of excitement and dread because some of the places look really amazing and the prices are great but not knowing the areas I can't really tell if it's a great place or not.

here is 1 of the places i'm thinking about considering

I shall use a shameless bump if any of you could even recommend some nice areas perhaps I could look near those areas?

Ok, I'll bite.

I know that area. My great grandfathers house is directly across the freeway from there.

The deal is Atlanta traditionally has grown north.

The neighborhood it is in is a bit on the sketchy side and it is a rundown has-been industrial area, but you're not living there either. That complex is decent, gated, and fairly safe. You will have to drive into town, Midtown or some of the other neighborhoods for more nightlife, dining, entertainment amenities as opposed to staying in a neighborhood that already has them.

However, that particular complex is actually well known for its views. Photographers has flocked and snuck back there for years. The gate is partly to keep amateur photographers away... sort of not a joke. Atlanta is very hilly, but it is also a city in a forest. We just don't have wide open views in most places. You will not stay in a place with a better view of the skyline short staying in a place that is in a mid-rise or taller.

So for your purposes, if you want a nice place to crash that is peaceful and quiet with great views and your ok with a short commute to better neighborhoods for your activities away from the condo.... go for it. That view is honestly hard to beat.

If you want to be in a neighborhood where you walk around and it is a more happening place, pass. Look for something close to Midtown or just east along Ponce De Leon, the Eastern Part of the Beltline, Virginia Highland, Piedmont Park, etc...

That particular location is also convenient for people coming to town for 3 very particular things:
- A concert at Aarons Ampitheater at Lakewood (just a little bit South)
- Visiting Zoo Atlanta/Cyclorama/Grant Park... less than a 5 minute drive north
- Braves Baseball until 2017. Turner Field is immediately north of there.

These locations are in a -long- walk range (1.5 miles-ish), but most would feel more comfortable taking a quick drive.

I love about 5 minutes from that listing by foot. You'll be fine. There's not much going on in the area, but it's a quick drive/uber into the convention area of the city. To me, there's no reason to pay a premium to stay in a bar/nightlife district for 3 days.
