I think he's talking about the lower priced real estate in some areas of south atlanta. The bad element among those who are getting displaced from gentrifying areas.

If the city wants to revitalize these areas it needs to devote sufficient police resources to make them safe. Safety is a bottom line for most people.

Once you get that squared away, most other things will take care of themselves. If young folks with families feel safe, they will settle in and schools will improve, oftentimes very rapidly.

Unfortunately, the further from Atlanta you go, the houses get bigger and much less expensive. But there are long commutes, no social life, HOAs, and none of the intown amenities and activities. We ended up in Cherokee. Love the house and yard but not the lack of life 'up here'.

Check out Medlock Park near Emory. You wont get a renovated place at that price point but you could find a 2/1. There are many single females living in the neighborhood, and it's really close to a lot of things in town, including downtown Decatur. There are break ins, but not the violent type crime that friends on the westside have been worried about lately.

There are plenty of options in historic Garden Hills in Buckhead for condos under 200k.

A 2-bedroom, 3-bath older, but renovated, townhouse was just listed two days ago in The Ivys (North Buckhead). I live in The Ivys and love it. Walking distance to Chastain Park (great running area), many restaurants, Lenox and Phipps, etc. Spacious, probably around 1500 sq. ft. Under $200k. I am not a realtor nor am I involved in the sale in any way. I just love this community.

Agreed. I lived as a single in a house in Grant Park for seven years. I never felt totally comfortable there living alone.
