I am wondering how bad is Gwinnett County particularly North Gwinnett HS attendance area (Suwanee ES, N Gwinnett MS)? I am trying to relocate from out of state and one of the things I was advised was to stay away from Gwinnett county due to high crime. I feel i been priced out of school attendance area I was looking for (HS with 9 or higher) with concentration of Asian community. However I do see houses within my price range in N Gwinnett HS area. Wondering if I should explore that area or stay out of it altogether. Is the Gwinnett county kind of declining at this point.

Price Range: 200K - 300K (preferably around 250K)
Work area: Alpharetta (windward)
Type of house: SF, 3 or 4 bed, 2.5 bath
Built: 2000 or later

Appreciate any input.

Who in the world told you Gwinnett was high crime? Certain areas yes but nowhere near all of it or even a quarter of it. North Gwinnett HS cluster is a great cluster and has a large asian community nearby (all throughout northern Gwinnett County), mainly Korean.

North Gwinnett is fine. I'd say South Gwinnett has a little more problems closer to Dekalb, but still not that bad. Gwinnett is a large county(at least in GA). Schools vary a lot in quality depending on where you're at. Gwinnett closer to North Fulton and Forsyth is fine and has the best schools and low crime...generally desirable.

For your work location, also look in South Forsyth HS, West Forsyth HS, & "Future HS #7" {Still to be named. }

You commute would be better .

You should be able to find a home in that price range also.

Is the real estate taxes much higher between Gwinnett and Forsyth county? Comparing on a $300K house.

Gwinnett Millage rate (UnInc parts of it) 35.76
Forsyth Millage rate (UnInc Parts of it) 26.474

One "mill" equals $1.00 of property taxes for every $1,000 of assessed valuation.

To determine the amount of your property taxes, several values are needed. These values are the Fair Market Value (FMV), Assessed Value (ASV), and the Millage Rate. The Millage Rate is defined as dollars per $1,000.00 of assessed value

Example: For 2014, Forsyth County's millage rate is set at .026474. If your property has a FMV of $100,000, the ASV would be 40% or $40,000. Multiply the ASV of $40,000 by the millage rate of .026474 to determine your property taxes. In this example, property taxes would be $1058.96.

That is too generic of a comment - there are many nice areas in Gwinnett County which is a huge area and overall they have an excellent school system.

Like anywhere - there are less desirable locations.

A more appropriate question would be: How good is Gwinnett? The answers would mostly be very positive.
