I was just wondering if I'm really avoiding a lot of traffic by hitting my commute at 6am. I will be going 85 south to 285 West. My commute is from Duluth to Marietta. I know, I know.....it wasn't planned this way but this is just how it is for the time being. My job offer flex time so I was just trying to figure out if it really makes that much of difference. Thanks.

YES! I used to live by the Mall of Georgia and commute to Emory/CDC. If I left around 6am there was a lot of cars, but it flowed pretty well.

Of course, traffic lightens up after you hit I-285 no matter what time it is (or that's how it used to be.).

But by leaving at 6am I could be parked at work for 6:45-6:50am.

I can't speak to 285 West personally but I have to think you're going against traffic and it wouldn't be bad.

And, by getting to work at 7am you can leave at 3:30pm!

Now, leaving at 3:30pm to go home isn't as kind as leaving home to go to work at 6am is. It's more congested going home at that time. Or it used to be. Still, you should get home in about an hour...

I often do I-285 from Decatur around to 400. It's fine if I leave by 6:00am.... 285 is pretty congested at that time but it's still speed limit. If you leave later, 285 westbound will be quite bad, at least to 400. No experience going west beyond that in the morning.

Taking Peachtree Industrial to 285W will be quicker than the 85 route. Assuming you live fairly close to Peachtree Industrial.

I commute from the Johns Creek / Duluth area off of McGinnis Ferry Rd to the Windy Hill exit. It is about a 45 min. ride taking Peachtree Industrial. It would take at least an extra 1/2 hr. going the 85 route. 85 gets really congested near 285 in the morning. I'm sure traffic is better at 6 am.
