I'm planning on getting a new place in like a month. Problem is I have no furniture of my own of much note. Where can I find some cheap, but still nice furniture around here? I'm willing to pay slightly more for nice detail and good solid construction, but I can't go into the thousands of dollars.

The only thing I would buy new is a mattress and box spring.

Everything else you can probably find second hand... if it later gets wrecked by shindigs or shenanigans, no worries.

Well what stores would you advise me to check? Please don't suggest Goodwill or such places, I never find anything good.

Have you looked at Ikea? Homegoods, Pier1, Target, sometimes has nice pieces for low prices.

There is also a place on Peachtree Industrial (inside the perimeter) called "My Favorite Place" which is really a junk store. It's hit or miss, but fun to check out.

Yard sales in good neighborhoods often produce treasures. Also check out consignment shops - you can always use slip covers or reupholster things that aren't to your taste, but are solidly built, with good lines.

What styles do you like?

Craigslist, man. It's pretty easy to talk people down in price on furnature if you have a truck and are willing to just get it off their property quickly.

Every town around here seemingly has a local Facebook sale page. The bargains are terrific, because corporate transfers are so common, and people don't want to move all their stuff. I've gotten a headboard for $5.00 and bar stools for $25.00 ea this month, all in great shape and excellent quality.

I second this; other than a new mattress, box spring, sofa, and a few decorations, everything in my apartment is literally from craigslist. I did hire a delivery guy for cheap that was also advertising on craigslist, and I didn't go in to ANYONE'S house without him meeting me there, and going in with me! Just be safe.

Get the mattress from IKEA. Get everything else from craigslist or the FB neighborhood Give Sell Swaps.

Actually I would probably buy the couch new too. I never trust other people's couches.
