Best Cities for Jobs.Atlanta #17.I remember through the 90's and early 2000's Atlanta was number one or at least in the top 5.

I think more cities are more competitive now so this is still a good ranking. Houston ranked below Dallas and Atlanta on the top 25 list.Im surprised.

Given our struggles coming out of the recession, this isn't so bad. Not great but not so bad.

A lot of unexpected choices in that list... Kansas City? Kansas City experienced very little population growth over the past few decades... Not exactly a boomtown. I guess it's easier to get a job when there are fewer new people entering the competition field. Houston's rather low and Atlanta's ahead of it... I thought they were booming?

I put little credence into "lists" like this anymore. I think population growth shows clearly what and where is desirable.

Memphis growth is due to Manufacturing jobs.It is number one in that regard in the state of Tennessee.

That was my meaning. Atlanta has added about 350,000 people since 2010. Even if there is no growth acceleration, it's still on track to add another 900,000 people or so by 2020... Growth ANY Midwest city would kill for.

What is manufactured there? I really thought I had a basic feel for relative economic health of metro areas.

I checked one of my portals and it states there are 935 manufacturing companies in Memphis. I can get a breakdown of each niche but I'll spare us all. Nevertheless, a lot is manufactured there.
