Well, I think I know a fair amount about what I want and what the area has to offer. But in short, here's what we want:

A nice neighborhood where there's not one teardown next to dumpy houses
At least 4-5 bedrooms
Finished basement
Backyard (doesn't have to be huge but some)
Swim tennis community or easy access to one
Range: up to 850K.
Characteristics of house: either renovated or built 90s or later with bigger masters etc.

I like Riverhill too but I think the houses are going to be too old and claustrophobic for us unless we find one completely renovated which is unlikely. I'm not sure we have the patience for a 200K reno that most of those houses would require (for us)

And not too far out. I know I can get this if I want to drive for miles but keeping it more "close in" East Cobb near JF/Roswell is preferred.

That's a massive budget. I'm sure you can find what you are looking for.

It's proving a bit challenging I think due to the lack of inventory. It's crazy. I think Waterford Green would be a good fit.

You know, you could broaden your options in Dunwoody with your budget. You might lose the swim/tennis of Redfield, but you could consider joining Dunwoody Country Club or Cherokee and get the same community pool effect. If you want to stay in 30338, consider homes in Dunwoody Club Forest, The Branches, etc... Many were built in the '80's, but have been renovated/added onto. There are some gems to be had.

We considered that CMMom.
We would rather not lose the swim/tennis 'neighborhood' aspect of it but we are considering it.
Would not do DCC or Cherokee though. We're not Country Club people and wouldn't use it beyond a pool. That's a steep cost for just a pool!

Other pools in the area include Mill Glen, Wynterhall, Spalding Woods. You can also join the JCC (anyone can join).

I was going to look at that one more closely
In a twist of irony I think we were shown East Hampton by a realtor when we were first looking to move her from San Francisco. Upon touring the house I cried for days about how it was everything I didn't want in the burbs.

Oh well...!
