What is going on with all the trees being cut down along the highway?

The area looks different.

Drove up around Windy Hill exit and others below.

Along the exits below, all the trees are being cut down.

Windy Hill Rd.exit 26 ,
Delk Road- exit 261
SR 120 Loop / S. Marietta Pky. 263
SR 120 Loop / N. Marietta Pky. 265
Exit 267A / B

I regret the loss of the trees as well, but there's no question that this will help traffic and, given that they're toll lanes, this is a smart way to fund highway expansion when it's needed.

I bet they are clearing trees to put up more hellish suburban subdivisions! :-)

I wouldn't really call it deforestation, you get half a mile away from the freeway and you can't even notice that trees are gone. But yea it's for that NW corridor project. I didn't realize they were so far along in planning. Seems like I had just heard about half a year ago.

They already have a good chunk of this overblown boondoggle built once you get up toward 575. Takes decades to get a few miles of rail, but building a road? They get that done instantly!

Considering the contractors are fronting about 40% of the cost, it's not surprising.

The toll will easily help pay off costs and maintenance. Not to mention you just removed some traffic from the "free" lanes.

I noticed this as well on my drive to work. I feel a bit bad for the homes that are right there, especially near 120.
