"Air Realty plans to break ground July 9 on Pad on Harvard, a new mixed-use center in College Park that should expand intown's rental options southward. And while no one not from the 1970s should use the word "pad" to refer to a residence, the announcement is exciting as it marks the first major development to come out of the Aerotropolis Alliance, which has been working to develop a liveable center around the airport. Phased plans call for apartments and 75,000 square feet of commercial space to eventually rise on 3.5 acres near the College Park MARTA station..."

Hopefully more developers will see the potential of the southside. I wish we could get some dense single family development here too.

Yes, I hope to see the airport area emerging as a new "core" / job center. It really is a great asset and a good place to locate an HQ.

I believe it to already be a major employment center.

True. But I mean I hope to see it become a home for corporate campuses that will rival Perimeter.

TBH, I do not see that happening because Perimeter Center offers areas north for executives to live, access to middle class suburbs, and rail access to urban areas for YP.

Airport area offers areas to live to the south in suburbs like PTC plus lots of land for new executive housing and it already has MARTA rail access as well. Plus it may see rail access extended into Clayton before rail gets extended into North Fulton. Either way, the infrastructure is very comparable between the two locations today, just south side has less people and traffic.

And it suffers from a perception problem.

Not only does the southside have great suburbs, we also have great urban neighborhoods such as Historic East Point, College Park, Hapeville, and Forest Park. Middle class suburbs such as Morrow, Ellenwood, Rex, Jonesboro, Lovejoy/Hampton, Henry County, Fayetteville, Tyrone, PTC, Union City, Fairburn, and Chattahooche Hills. Although some of these places may have bad reputations, the housing stock is comparible to the northern suburbs. The schools will see immediate improvement with new white collar workers moving in. The southside is also more diverse than most of the northside which will attract more people.
