Developers of a $52M West Atlanta luxury apartment complex are suing contractors of a tunneling project at Bellwood Quarry for millions of dollars in potentially lost rent as some of its residents flee from round-the-clock drilling.

Let's see what is more important, increasing the water storage for 1.3M people to >30 days or some stick-built apartments?

All this racket will be done within a year or so. Can't they put up with it for a little while?

I remember when they were building Georgia Pacific back in the 70s. My window was right next to the pile driver and that thing was so loud it would literally knock a cup of coffee off your desk. It gave me a headache every day for six months.

Once it was done, however, we had an iconic addition to the skyline.

I saw these huge machines from Howell Mill the other day and wondered what they were. I also immediately thought...I wonder what effect those things have on the people living in that apartment building!

Are you saying you would happily live next to that? What does the construction quality of the apartments have to do with excessive noise by a contractor? How does the "importance" fit in?

And have you seen those apartments? They look very nice. I'd move there in a heartbeat if they fit my needs. But, if I paid that kind of rent and had to live next door to a massive drilling operation, I would be moving out, too. The owners of this complex have every right to be upset over it. If they can't rent their apartments due to a construction project making too much noise, I think some restitution is warranted.

I'm assuming this is one of your little snarky snubs, and not an actual serious comment.

If we kowtowed to everyone who complained about noise, nothing would be built. I'm sure the developer of these apartments disrupted the neighborhood while they were being built. This is a major, essential city infrastructure project. They can...

Revisit the article: "“Defendants are engaging in round-the-clock, seven-day-a-week drilling activities immediately next door to [Worthing's] new apartment complex. Indeed, within 35 feet of a number of the residences,”.

Round-the-clock, seven days. That means non-stop noise from drilling in excess of the sound of a sewing machine indoors, for who-knows how long, literally close enough to throw a basketball into. I very highly doubt that the construction of the apartments was quite like that.

If the noise is in excess of allowable decibels, the apartment owners have every right to fight it.

And I know 100% that none of you would gladly live next to that, even if it was an "essential project". If you say otherwise, you are lying. Reconstruction of the 85 bridge was an emergency project directly affecting daily life of millions. This is not. It is an important project, but should not require 24/7 drilling right next to residences.

This impacts the drinking water of every citizen of Atlanta. Rebuilding I-85 never impacted many city residents at all. It seems like kind of a dumb idea to build an apartment complex where the city's been planning to dig a tunnel for years; why not delay construction until after you know the tunnel is complete?

If the permits for variance are being violated, then that should absolutely be remedied.

(bolding mine) you're joking right? Please tell me you're not being serious with this sentence?

Exactly.

I don't think progress should stop for some brand new luxury apartments, but they agreed to build under the conditions stated on the permits. I would imagine they even budgeted to construct to stay within that threshold. They may just be cutting corners and could do what they do in a more quiet manner.

A massive drilling operation? The issue here is not Driller Mike and it's underground drilling, its the drilling for pumping stations or vents. This is one of the most important projects in Atlanta, it will take our raw water supply from 3 days to a minimum of 30 (which can be stretched to 90 days.) This project is too important for 1 lawsuit to stand in the way.
