They don't have to do it all, but could probably get fed, city, and state backing to build out the transit aspects, with plans for the lower track levels being completed to wait on funding.
Your mere mention of the Green Line gives you mucho credibility with me. So many aren't even aware of it. I love your thoughts on all of this, big time.

I sincerely wish you had input with the alphabet soup of decision makers involved.

I would like to see a casino in East Cobb or Alpharetta - see how they like it in those parts. Just kidding. I think we have to be very careful plopping a casino down anywhere to make sure it benefits the area. Maybe look at some of the downtown casinos in other cities and see how those have affected the surrounding neighborhoods.
Had to chuckle about a casino in East Cobb. The Six Flags area is probably the only place it could possibly go in Cobb, but even so there would be plenty of resistance. Downtown just makes the most sense for a gleaming glitzy casino.

Why is Cobb County off limits? MGM wants to put a casino in Atlanta's central business district, why is Cobb County's central business district (Cumberland) off limits? Why is South Cobb, an economically depressed area of the county the only place a casino could go? It appears there are double standards on this casino placement.

I personally would welcome a casino in The Gulch primarily to (hopefully) to jump-start the MMPT. Transformational type projects seem to take way too long to get done down here in Georgia. Also something needs to be done to fill in the gaps downtown. A Vegas-style MGM casino in The Gulch along with the current plans transforming the Underground to a residential area could would be great for Atlanta. Actually would mind A Vegas-style MGM casino in Cumberland either, but that would cause another ITP vs OTP uproar. As I mentioned in other post, the state of Georgia without the city of Atlanta, would be Mississippi so it would be in the interest of the entire state to support a revitalization of Downtown Atlanta.

(disclaimer - The state of Mississippi is a wonderful state, and it's residents are a shining example to the world of what this great nation has to offer)

Which is why I don't see the appeal of casinos—Atlanta is a real city, why would we resort to the same desperate measures that Missisippi and Detroit and Atlantic City did when they had few other options? They desperately needed to try something to stimulate economic development, so they built casinos. Atlanta doesn't, and shouldn't.

I agree and more importantly, why not build it in Midtown? Downtown seems like a logical place, only because it's the path of least resistance. If this was an overall of development centered around revitalizing Downtown I'd be more inclined to accept it. However this is a 1 billion dollar pitch with ZERO plans for making Downtown a neighborhood. If it comes with 10k units of residential units, a grocery store, major retailers locating on Peachtree street store fronts, MMPT, and the casino is the last piece built, bring it on.

Although Atlanta on a whole is not desperate for development, downtown and south downtown are pretty close.

Agreed regarding an overall development. I say downtown in The Gulch so it can somehow be connected (not physically) to the new gazillion dollar football stadium, the newly renovated Phipps Arena, the new development at the Underground and hopefully kick start the proposed MMPT.
