Because New York has multiple tracks for each line if they need to do track work they can simply use another track, plus it's not uncommon for them to close whole stations down for maintenance, and they have the manpower

Armour Yard, Avondale Yard, and South Yard.

Its a real pain if you don't know the system well. It definitely is not uncommon.

We could at least have 24 hour operation on Fridays and Saturdays. That would still leave 5 nights a week for maintenance. Could that work with Marta?

Terrible comparison. Transit doesn't go everywhere in our road-centric society.

That would be awesome. One night owl train every 20 minutes for four hours is only 12 extra trains X 3 lines (if we skip the Green Line at late nights) = 36 extra trains. More options for late-night partygoers to get home safely and cheaply!

It'd be nice if they did something similar with the buses. It's great to have trains run late, but if you're trying to get anywhere from a station, then you're screwed w/o a taxi or uber.

Yes we need time for track maintenance, but we could single track all the lines between 2am and 6am, with a train every 20min to 30 min. Just keep the night-time service going with red line between North Springs and Lindbergh, and Green Line between Bankhead and Ashbey.

You could switch the single track depending on where the maintenance needs to take place.

Yes, I should have clarified to mean the whole system, not just rail. And is MARTA legally obligated to provide rail service to Bankhead during all hours of operation?

No, but it would be a very dick move.

Even at 3 A.M. with trains running only every 20/30 minutes?

Given the history of the Proctor Creek Branch and MARTA trying to weasel out of building it in the first place, the words "cutting service" would not go over well in that part of town. If MARTA eventually finds 24-hour rail service feasible (which likely won't happen anytime soon), it should be for all stations in the system.
