I just want to say...awesome posts from the "Midtowners" telling the the truth about the public schools intown. They are many of great ones.

And yes...do not waste your money on private schools if you are going to live in Midtown.

For clarity...Centennial Place Elementary picks up "West Midtown" (Ga. Tech, Home Park, out towards southern Howell Mill Road), and core Downtown. Morningside picks up the Midtown core over to the eastside neighborhoods. The dividing line is the Downtown Connector. Both are powerhouse elementary schools...and both feed into high-flyin' Inman Middle and Grady High.

Good Luck and Go Public.

Decatur has its own school system (you have to live in the city limits) - Their schools include Clairmont, Oakhurst, Winnona and Glennwood Elementaries, Renfroe Middle and Decatur High.

There are also excellent elementary and middle schools in the Buckhead area.

I get irritated with people who think that there are no good public schools in town. It is a complete myth created by folks who are trying to justify their two hour communtes.
Great post. Especially the conclusion.

I am not going to argue about the quality of in-town public schools versus private schools, but since there is so much pro public school opinion on this board, I just have to add that some people will always choose private schools over public for various reasons. Some of those reasons may include access to religious discussion/education, control over the kids with whom your own kids go to school, etc. I have no idea if the OP is in this boat or not, but please do not turn this thread into a public versus private school debate. I do think that it is useful to point out that there are good in-town public schools in case the OP is open to that (and is leaning towards private school only to avoid the public schools). As for other in-town neighborhoods with kids, you can check out Brookhaven, Pine Hills, and Peachtree Hills. These neighborhoods are all further north than the previously mentioned options. I am trying to locate a link that highlights the various in-town neighborhoods... will post if I find it.

No one is debating anything here. One thing is fact: Good public schools = higher property values.

Even if the OP still sends their kids to private school they'll want to live in an area where the public schools are good.
