NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A local leader is under fire for racist remarks he made online.
His controversial comments were spotted by a viewer who sent 11Alive the image before it was taken down.
Newton County Commissioner John Douglas was commenting on a picture posted on Facebook.

Only whites are subject to such scrutiny. I don't like what he said, but under a different racial dynamic it would have received no attention at all.

It's definitely an offensive comment, and I think it would have received attention in any era if made publicly by an public figure. Social media has allowed people's true colors to shine through...I sometimes wonder if some folks even realize that ANYONE can read their comments? It's not like talking on the phone, people!

Look how many people liked the comment at that point in time. Sad.

I don't think the "likes" are for his comment but for the original post.

It's amazing to me what terrible things some people will say on Facebook with their real names.
