My apologies if this has been posted before but I couldn't find it.

It doesn't factor in convenience and time but that will vary from person to person.

Turns out for me that I am much better off driving by YMMV.

It says I am better driving as well but it should be noted that the transit cost is majorly overstated for people that live close to a station.

It says the transit cost includes a 10 mile drive to the station or park and ride lot.

So for example it says that driving will cost me around $1000 per year but taking transit will cost $2000.

Since I could walk to a MARTA station, if I just calculate the total MARTA fare without the driving then taking transit would only cost me around $1200.

They should probably have made the distance you live from a station another input variable.

Very few people live within walking distance to a MARTA station.

Transit is only 1140 a yr. The marta monthly passes are $95 without any income or employer subsidies. My commute is $4383.60 cheaper than driving if I could take transit the whole way. Unforunately, I still have to commute from North Springs to Old Milton, Connect400 needs to hurry up.

Old Milton is currently served by a bus route from North Springs.

True, but was just mentioning that the driving distance was a fixed factor. You have to estimate your own cost based on that.

"Transit costs are based on a $100 average cost for monthly transit passes along with a 10-mile roundtrip drive to/from the transit station or park-and-ride lot."

I agree, this is pretty stupid that they automatically input a 10-mile roundtrip for getting to transit. Doesn't that basically automatically make MARTA look more expensive, unless you're commuting from way out? I bike to work, but I put this in for me to see what the estimates would be for driving. I was pretty amazed to see that it says MARTA would be $300 more expensive for me, even when factoring in $75/month to park where I work. If I do take MARTA, I also walk to a bus stop, so it would be much cheaper than driving to work. Do a lot of people drive 10+ miles round trip to take MARTA? I agree that distance to transit station should definitely be a variable, as that would apparently make a huge difference in cost. Also, monthly transit passes don't cost $100, even without an employer discount as far as I know. But most employers offer some type of discount, so this assumption automatically increases the cost of MARTA. If the point of this website is to show that alternative transportation is cheaper than driving alone, they have massively failed.
