Their percentage of total costs attributable to uncompensated care is lower than than Grady's, of course (and consequently they get less from the state than Grady, and rightfully so), but that is not surprising considering the difference in the income levels in each facility's catchment area.

Kennestone provides a tremendous amount of free medical care. including $85 million a year in charity care and another $50 million to people who simply didn't pay. That's on top of all the Medicaid treatment they provide.

Looks like Atlanta and Fulton County are at least discussing a joint contingency/relocation plan for the possible closure. SaportaReport | Fulton’s John Eaves and Atlanta’s Kasim Reed forging homeless pact

The facility in question is pretty close to the jail though. I don't know if that's a good idea.

I think it should be relocated to a very nice, calm setting for those. Maybe somewhere in North Fulton, where the residents can breath fresh air and be in a bucolic setting.

I'd be shocked if the NIMBYs allowed that to happen. I do like what Eaves said about splitting up the effort among several smaller shelters. Packing homeless people in together by the hundreds can't be the most mental health-conducive environment.

We have seen what happens when packing lower income people together.

Just drove by this fine place and saw what was clearly a sex act, seemingly in exchange for drugs, about to happen right on the sidewalk. Huzzah!

Hopefully, the super scuzzy Savannah Suites down Pine Street will get run out of town too.
