Most people from Florida are not going to tell you they are a Southerner. If you ask them that they are going to look at you funny and say something along the lines of "Not.... Really.....". Someone from miami would probably start laughing if you called them a Southerner.
Maybe they folks should Miami should know English first, then the question may make more sense.

Which, as we've learned from this thread, is not part of the South. Therefore, most of the transplants to GA are not Southern.

Hahaha! So true! I think me and many of my family members are the only FL natives left. The rest moved to GA/SC/NC.

Transitive property or something like that right. 2-3 generations back must've been from up north.

Touché!

I'm loving this thread.

Cwkimbro, I have to tell you, your lengthy reply on page two brought a tear to my eye. That was was the post of the year!

So by your own statistics 29% of the transplants are not southern while 15% are. You litterally disproved your own point.
I was wondering why it took so long for someone to point that out. This in itself kills the argument but I enjoyed taking the scenic route lead by cwkimbro and others.

The south is still the biggest sender. You have to add up all other groups combined to outnumber southern transplants. And a huge chunk of those northerners have southern roots.

The point is that Georgia and specifically Atlanta has not attracted even close to enough transplants from non Southern backgrounds to be saying that the Southern culture is diluted. Atlanta is still Southern through and through. Not the case with Florida.

But 2 times as many people are still non-southern....Nearly 67% are not from the south vs. the 33% that are. Obviously, any city will get transplants from the region first and foremost because of easy access and distance. To me, that's cosmopolitan.
