Why do so few homes have pools in the Atlanta area?

Many home are in sub divisions that have pool(s) and/or Tennis etc. , and your HOA fee pays for a pool ....

Pools are extraordinarily high maintenance. It costs a lot of money to maintain a pool, even if you do everything yourself. I go out to lunch with a coworker who has a pool and there's never been a time when he didn't grouse about pool maintenance. Also, having a pool vastly increases the risk that your children die of drowning, so there's that too.

Exactly. We filled ours in for these very reasons.

Not sure where you're looking, but there are plenty of homes with pools in the Atlanta area.
A bunch of Debbie Downers in this thread.
I guess you could stay at home and keep your kids wrapped up in bubble wrap to save money and keep them safe.

Pools can make a house harder to sell and affect the value negatively. A lot of people just see it as a lot of cost and maintenance.

Lots of subdivisions. Lots of those subdivisions have pools and won't let you add your own (ours is like that). And as others have said, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Even though it gets pretty hot here, the other three seasons are not conducive to swimming. This is different than how it is in Florida, Texas, California where the weather is such that you can swim year round comfortably.
