This seems like a good thing for Kirkwood, cq. Is that the consensus in the neighborhood?

The northeastern portion will be apart of the Kirkwood neighborhood commercial zoning (NC-3) district and the southwestern portion will be multifamily residential zoning... It was a "compromise" for possible future commercial tenants on the ground level of the northeastern portion facing the main Kirkwood commercial district.

"It would essentially be connected with Kirkwood Station, the neighborhood’s mixed-use village that’s home to Taproom Coffee, The Kirkyard restaurant, and other local businesses"

How? is there actually going to be a connection to the service drive and parking area behind Kirkwood Station, or would people from these apartments still need to walk around on Howard or Doyle?

A direct connection to the plaza would be great
