Hello, I am currently a single mother of 2 children. My oldest daughter is in the 6th grade. I am currently a 4th grade teacher in South Florida. The pay is really low. I know that there are some job fairs coming up in the Atlanta area. Gwinett has one coming up in the beginning of March and Fulton County has one coming up at the end of March. Atlanta will have one coming up soon as well. Atlanta pays the highest but all the others pay much more than my school.

My question is if I was to take a position with Atlanta Public Schools, where would I live. My daughter is gifted and I definitely would want her to attend a good school. I would like to live in an diverse neighborhood. Yes I would probably rent to start off with.

Next question is for anyone familiar with teaching in the school districts. Will I be able to live a decent life in the ATL area on a teacher's salary? I would probably be at around step 6 or 7 and I have a Master's degree in Reading.

Which job fair should I focus on? Gwinnett, Atlanta or Fulton County?

All comments are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

I know a lot of people like Gwinnett county, personally, I think it's just kind of... industrial looking. Meh. I don't really like the Mall of Georgia area, it's real far out from "the city", to me anyway.

I thought about being a teacher here. I have a Master's as well, though not in education. Which county are you coming from? I took a quick look at the salary schedules for both Dade and Broward, they don't look that bad versus the rest of the state of Florida. Actually, a quick look shows they may actually be more than what Gwinnett public schools pay.

Anyway, what do you feel like the pros/cons about Florida are? What do you want out of living in Atlanta. I only say this because I moved here from Florida... I'm not in the same stage of life that you're in, I have no children, but I really... REALLY miss Florida for many reasons.

I work for Broward schools.
I'm not from FL . I've been here for almost 4 years. I'm originally from NJ. I would like to purchase home eventually and S. FL is too expensive.
