I am relatively new to ATL. I have lived in Morrow since April 2014, my first area I have lived in atl. It is not that bad, considering they have a mall and movie theater and several shops, but other than that , there is not really much nightlife or entertainment in Henry/Clayton Counties. I have heard that the northern suburbs are more diverse. Plus it seems that most of the corporations with good jobs are located in north atl suburbs..not many good jobs on the southside. I came to Atlanta with the goal of moving to the northern suburbs eventually but since my current job, which I am planning on leaving, is in Forest Park, it is convienent to live on the south side. I am black but I want to live somewhere diverse...Clayton County is pretty much all black. I like all different types of people but more attracted to whites for dating so my chances of finding someone would be much better on the north side, as there are not many whites down here. Is my impression of the northern suburbs vs the southern suburbs pretty accurate? I have visited Cumming, Dunwoody, Marietta, and Alpharetta since I have lived in ATL . I love Alpharetta but seems like you have to be rich to live there lol

its just where the white people stay with the good jobs. white people run the country, thus they got the good jobs, and live in the good areas.

But I wouldn't say the actual area is good. White folks just make it good. If white folks wanted to take Clayton County and make it the "new thing" they could do it.

Oh this should be good...
If you're looking for the areas that have more going on, that would be the northside. That doesn't necessarily mean the northside is better than the southside, just that that's where development is often concentrated. Really depends on what you're looking for.

Honestly, if you're looking for more diversity and night life, you should move into the city. That's where you'll find the best mix of both. The northern suburbs may be more diverse than the southside, but they're not going to be much more entertaining than where you are now. If I were looking for the things you mentioned, I'd be looking at apartments in the city. You'll have a much bigger dating pool here than up north, for one thing, and nobody bats an eye at interracial couples (I know from personal experience).

Yes the northern suburbs have more choices for dining and nightlife. They also contain most of Atlanta's high paying jobs. They aren't necessarily better or more diverse though.(If you take the whole area into account). Especially Morrow and Forest Park which are two of Atlanta's most diverse suburbs.

Seems like ITP, maybe good for you. You will have a better commute vs living in the suburbs. I've lived in the northern, Southern burbs and in the city. ITP is the best, plus dating and socializing has been way easier in the city.

Since I have only lived on the north side of town, I don't have an opinion about whether it is truly "better" than the south side. There are so many factors that need to be considered when trying to rate something better or worse that it's almost an impossible question to answer without knowing all the factors.

As nearly as I can tell, you want a more racially diverse environment and would prefer a white girlfriend. I'm American and my boyfriend is Peruvian so I say whatever floats your boat, but I'm more into the person wherever they are from as opposed to what race or ethnicity they are.

I am unclear if you're planning to quit your job without having another one, but if that is the plan then you have no plan. Find something else before you let the situation completely fly off the rails, especially if you think you cannot afford to move to the area you want to move to now.

Also, you have a driver's license and a car, right? If you want to check out the other side of town, then mash your gas pedal and do it.

Every metro areas has a 'preferred' or 'more desirable' quadrant. Atlanta's is the northern suburbs. It provides quick access to high paying jobs in the major employment centers, via freeways. It has the best schools, which could be because of the higher property values and higher parent involvement.

Smyrna sounds like a good fit for you: diverse, lots of single people, easy access to many parts of metro Atlanta. Unless you end up with a job east of Atlanta. Most suburbs are going to be filled with married people and families (possible exceptions: historic Marietta, and apartments in Alpharetta.)
