I was reading this article earlier, and I thought, oh man, I hope my neighborhood does not turn into this. What a nightmare. For the record, I have never trusted this company, and they do have a known track record of covering up rental experiences gone wrong.

At least I can opt out of Facebook or Uber, or whatever the new-fangled stuff is these days. This mess can affect an entire neighborhood. The new Extended Stay America is now next door.

Sorry, hit "enter" too fast. How "DO" we, not "TO" we. Fat fingers.

This sounds like it's a very local problem and not necessarily a problem with Airbnb at large.

It is a local problem for now. I could absolutely see this happening in parts of Buckhead or Midtown. Anywhere that is considered a "party" or "resort" destination could become a problem. It could even pose a problem for close-in suburbs, if the rental is cheap enough. A ten mile drive to the club ain't that far.

I have had good experiences staying at AirBnB's when I travel. Not quite convinced the the "AirBnB party house" is really a prevalent issue any more than a new neighbor that moves next door and throws parties all the time.

Why would anyone want to opt out of Uber? Have fun with your old, annoying, unpredictable, and sketchy taxis!

I agree with this. Much like your family, you cannot choose your neighbors' lifestyles.

If someone owns a house, then I think they should be able to do what that want with it within reason as long as it is legal and does not violate any local ordinances. I definitely don't like the idea of people being told only a certain number of unrelated people can enter their home. Maybe they're an orphan or have relocated to an area where they have no family, and all they have are friends - you understand what I'm saying?

I have had a some pleasant neighbors and some horribly annoying neighbors but my being annoyed in and of itself isn't grounds to go all authoritarian on them. If you don't want your family to see what's going on next door, build a fence. If a party is entirely too loud, call the police. If you think there are more people in the house than could be safely accomodated, call the fire marshall.

If you want a house in an extremely regimented neighborhood, then move to one with a strict HOA. Other than that, you're just going to hae to suck it up or move some place with lots of acreage so you don't have to worry about much less hear what's going on in the next house.

An HOA could prevent AirBnB activity as most HOAs have policies that disallow operating a business out of your home. And if the owner is getting paid for use of the house then it is a business.

I sure hope you HOA haters on this forum don't mind your AirBnB neighbors.

To the OP: it is considered bad form on CD (and potentially a copyright violation) to quote an entire article like that. Best to just put in a link and let folks click through. I wouldn't be surprised if a mod came along and removed the article content.

If that's part of the policy or terms and conditions, then it needs to be reviewed and revised The source link is included and that should be sufficient. It's not like the OP claimed he or she wrote it. All things considered, I'm hesitant to click links from people I know much less from total strangers,. In general , if there is a link on a message board , I will wait to see if others have safely made it through before I respond at all to the post. Like I have not even clicked the OP's; could have been a completely made up content, but I read that several other posters have clicked it, it's not gonna happen.

It's usability 101. The more a user has to click, the less likely they are to follow thru. Most people are good for about three clicks in, but that's it.

At any rate, I appreciate the source link as well as the content. I don't come in a thread to open a tab for a different site just for what's supposed to be being discussed here in the first place. Now, that I find annoying. We can get this show on the road a little swifter than that.
