Well, I hear you, cq, but isn't it the same no matter where you locate a facility? It will be closer for some and further for others.

Regarding bicycle access, I have to wonder why folks think it's a good thing for those who live 5 miles from the current stadium, but ludicrous to talk about making areas around the new stadium more bike friendly.

In the big picture, of course, the vast majority of fans will drive to the game like they do now.

But I am happy for at least this attempt at making a walkable destination in Cumberland. I hope to see more of this there.

I would love for this stadium relocation to be used by Cobb to build connections to the rest of the metro instead of walling themselves off. Something like rail connectivity into the city (maybe by even allowing CoA to annex the area and bring MARTA) would go a long way to address the issues they are facing and make me a fan of Cobb and them embracing regionalism.

But for now it seems this only to be dividing the region.

I would really love for Cobb to prove me wrong. And I think eventually Cobb will change, it just does not appear to be happening anytime soon.
"There also seems to be an inability for those Cobb-supporters to even acknowledge that there are major issues that need to be addressed around this development." Although I live in Cobb, I am not a Cobb supporter in the way of there past history, however it doesn't help to rally behind the downfall of this project either.

I agree with you here, I wish this stadium would be used to build connections to the rest of the metro

The area Turner Field is already bike friendly; RDA has bike lanes, Georgia Ave offers eastside areas a safe ride, via Cherokee St and Woodward Ave, the eventual extension of the Southside Trail would offer a safe, multiuse trail to get riders close to where they can use local roads to access the stadium. There is currently demand intown for bicycle access, while Cumberland is trying to create demand and access in an area that is not safe or attractive for cycling. It is not uncommon to see cyclists riding Peachtree or Ponce (Atlanta's main streets), but no one bikes along Cobb Pkwy.

It is walkable in areas, but those areas are more numerous than Cumberland. Look at the walk scores of intown vs Cumberland.

The Braves have a better shot of winning the World Series next season than this project being intended by Cobb County as an impetus for MARTA expansion into Cobb. Also, the county government doesn't want the Braves property (and Cumberland as a whole) to be in any incorporated city due to them missing out on tax revenue.

Man, the ITP'ers are going to be pissed when they find out the Hawks are also moving into the Braves park.
