This remodeling enabled Cumberland to transition from being the 1970's era mall into the shopping center which it is today with a booming Apple store, as well as Michael Kors among other newer retailers. Many can't remember how much Cumberland had gone down before the remodel. Macy's also has remodeled their store and added better brands than what they used to carry at Cumberland.

Ann Taylor relocated their store to Vinings Jubilee Shopping Center because they knew they still had customers in the area, but they weren't shopping at Cumberland Mall.

The Battery Atlanta will seek to attract the shoppers in the Smyrna/Vinings area as well as the larger geographic draw which the stadium will attract.

Also, you can't compare the neighborhoods around Turner Field to that around Sun Trust Park. There are many very affluent neighborhoods within a four mile radius to STP - these include Vinings, the far western part of Buckhead near Westminster and Lovett as well as the far western part of Sandy Springs off of Riverside Dr. and the Paper Mill Rd./Atlanta Country Club area of East Cobb. When it isn't baseball season, it will be a whole lot easier for these shoppers to visit shops at Battery Atlanta instead of dealing with the heavy congestion around Lenox Square an Perimeter. This will be especially true during the Christmas season when smaller non-mall shopping centers like Vinings Jubilee do a brisk business.
But people on here really believe that fewer people will go to the stadium area here than Turner Field. It's laughable really.

Actually it is mathematically impossible for more people to go to Suntrust Field than Turner. The average attendance of some years at Turner is higher than the maximum attendance at Suntrust. So, yes, the situation is quite laughable.

That hasn't been the case in about 15 years.

Then they should have any problem approving MARTA rail service for the area (which should've happened decades ago).

Do you think the stadium and the related development will increase home prices?

Over the past year, in the area unfinished developments from the last down turn are being built on and new developments are being build so that is good news. However, the prices appear to be still depressed from the downturn.
I don't know about home prices, but I have coworkers who live in apartments and townhouses on Spring Road and Powers Ferry Road and they have already noticed the rents are rising (unfortunately, it may get to the point that they may no longer be able to afford living in their dwellings).

But then again, with the home prices in Smyrna I believe the city has their comprehensive plan in which they raised taxes and millage rates to to accommodate the growth and affluent attractions. There's already hints at ANOTHER housing bubble (why people jump for joy for that under the guise of "expensive property values" I will never understand) so in general house prices all over the ATL region and the country will rise. I live in South Cobb (the part where so many people have slick words to say about) and our home was appraised an it's reaching pre-2007 housing crash numbers.

I don't think the stadium will have any effect on prices because, if anything that Neil DeMause published on this issue is anything to go by, stadia have little to no effect on the value of the plot of land it sits on. Cumberland is a high value/affluent area and would have continued to be one whether the stadium was there or not. Summerhill is not a high value/affluent area (hasn't been for nearly six decades) and will continue to be that way whether TF stayed or not.

The ridiculousness is all the stack and pack development occurring around Cumberland and the roads are bursting at the seams (and yes, MARTA rail would have been very useful but who's gonna spend $1+ billion to get it there?)

Unfortunately what is keeping Marta out of the area are the many Cobb Residents in other parts of Cobb County that are not affected. Most business leaders and many residents in the Southern part of the county are not the ones that are anti Marta.

I live within two miles of Turner Field. Home prices in my neighborhood are skyrocketing, so I assume it must be because the Braves are leaving. That makes as much sense as assuming homes' prices are rising because they're now in the vicinity of SunTrust Park.

Correlation ain't causation. The entire market is rising.
