In light of the recent attacks in Paris, Governor Deal will try to prevent Georgia from accepting any further Syrian refugees, and is asking for a thorough review of the 59 Syrian refugees currently residing in Georgia.

That's great news. I'd also urge everyone to contact their Congressman to voice their opinion!

This kind of stupidity = letting the terrorists win. Fear and overblown reactions, that's like exactly, precisely what ISIS wants.

Why can't we fight terror, have the security and screening, and also aid the refugees and victims of the violence over there? Are we just not smart enough to do both? The idea that we should refuse to help anybody, because somebody *might* be a terrorist? What utter crap.

What a bunch of sad fear mongering and bigotry and politics. Also it's particularly hilarious that southern states are scared of terrorists. The south is mostly farms and subdivisions and Walmarts. The terrorists go after important targets. They aren't going to bother blowing our crappy stuff up.

No, what is stupid is to let the fox into the hen house. Never, have we had refugees come into the country who have murderers, intent on harming us mbedded among them. Paris is not an outlier. Protecting oneself, ones home, family, state and country is not over reacting. Do not be so pathetically naive.

Unfortunately for Governor Deal, the United States is signatory to the United Nations Protocol on the Status of Refugees. So tough break there on that one.

Y'all conservatives are okay with the international commerce like the Free Trade Agreements and the likely already signed TPP/TPA.

So y'all are equally and fairly gonna have to deal with the heartaches of international affairs as well.

Can't have it both ways.

Get the cheap money & easy profits from the cheap-to-free labor; deal with the refugee heartaches too.

Fair is fair.

The idea that the United States is letting in people without regard to its own national security is a ridiculous one showing nothing but ignorance for what's actually happening. The review process for a refugee to find sanction here in the United States takes anywhere from 18 to 24 months. Over that time, the applicant must go through numerous background checks, security checks, health screenings, etc.

Those who are accepted into this country have probably gone through more investigation than you can even imagine unless you have been through a similar ordeal. The ones here are not the ones we need to worry about. The ones here are not the ones we need to vilify, for they have already shown they are not a threat.

Who we need to worry about are the poor souls who are trapped oversees being threatened and pressured into fighting for a group who's sole purpose is to cause pain and tragedy in the persute of a religious war. Those are the people who need the most help, they are the ones who could have been helped, and saved, and kept from the war, but found themselves with few other real options.

Do not let the fear control your view on this matter. The moment you try to alienate people based on the actions of the most extreme of their religion, is the moment you have let those most extreme win. The less compassion and understanding you show to those who have not done a dmaned thing against this country, the more likely they are to return bitter and with hatred in their hearts.
