I think a little too much of the scale is weighted toward home prices. It's fair enough that keeping a roof over your head tends to be the biggest cost of living, but everyone isn't buying a roof. I think consideration should be given to what percentage of people are buying as opposed to renting and if those people who are buying live at the place they are buying or renting it out.

I'm not saying that other factors like the price of a gallon of gas or milk wasn't taken into account, but they were not mentioned at all. How much is the average cost of a visit to a doctor or a dentist? How much is a hamburger, salad, a pair of shoes, an electricity bill, or a chair? How much does it cost to ride the bus based on your destination? Can you even reach your destination on transit?

I don't see how Atlanta could be number 6 on where your dollars could stretch the furthest. Maybe we need to reign in what's considered the metro. Just because I might be able to buy a trailer for $10,000 in Cartersville does not mean that's a valid or realistic price to include in the average. Perhaps, they need to toss the average calculations altogether and work wih the mean.
