They will not, not when they aren't paying their bills, they will move them to other area shelters over a place that is horribly run and not doing their job for the city.

I agree it has taken way too long and every time we think it'll happen it doesn't, but I think PP's time is waining.

Despite lawsuits, unpaid bills, and even a few shootings, the facility has managed to remain open, prompting ire from those in the surrounding neighborhoods.

It seemed the city was closer to securing closure of the shelter last month, with the city council voting to move forward with procurement of the property — confirming rumors that had been swirling all fall.

Anita Beaty, the executive director of the Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless, which runs the shelter, says people outside the shelter are getting more violent and volunteers are getting scared. She and some other Task Force leaders and supporters think the police and Mayor Kasim Reed are allowing drug dealers and other lawbreakers to hang around on the streets around the shelter. Beaty accuses some — not all — officers of simply ignoring law-breaking on the block.

“The mayor needs to get up, to demand police protection for this block,” said Beaty, speaking at a meeting of Peachtree-Pine leaders, staff and supporters last week.

The city, however, says the shelter has attracted illegal and drug activity for years and that the shelter isn’t doing anything about it.

The Peachtree Pine shelter is a crappily-run place, there's no doubt about that.

But I want to know where all its residents will go once this place shuts down. They have physical needs that need to be met, and that is not going to happen out on the streets.

They may as well be on the streets the way Peachtree Pines runs. At least if they close it they can spread them out to smaller facilities instead of one disgusting disease riddled mega homeless shelter right in the heart of Midtown

Are you suggesting that the problem is the size of the shelter, the location, or how it's run?
