That's just wrong.
It's unfortunately not. The statistics speak for themselves.

I appreciate where you're going with this argument, and I'd like to believe that in a perfect politically correct world, you're right.

But the fact is, gentrification almost always improves the safety of an area. Why is that? I'm sure there are hundreds, or even thousands, of reasons why. However, if you deny that areas with residents who have more money are safer than poorer areas in the aggregate, your head is in the sand.

This was 15 years ago, before gentrification had really begun.
All streetlights have been upgraded to LEDs.

Kirkwood is on fire, homes selling for nearly $700K? Transitional neighborhood no more.
For $647K, Kirkwood New-Build Goes the Classic Route - On the Market - Curbed Atlanta

I wish we would stop valuing or de-valuing an area by whether it is gentrified, which really only means ppl with more money moved in or more frankly that white ppl now live there. I bristle whenever I hear someone basically say, don't worry, other ppl have moved in so the neighborhood is ok now. That's just wrong. This is almost like code for white ppl have moved in so the area is now good to go. That should not be how we see things. This frame of mind is just as problematic as other more explicit classist or racist viewpoints/thought patterns.
By default gentrification basically means an area becomes more desirable and thus safer. If the people who "lived there before it was gentrified" didn't committ crimes at a higher rate the area wouldn't have needed to be gentrified in the first place. And it is not a race thing - wealthy and educated people of all races help gentrify an area.

It's bizzare, Kirkwood prices are almost where Candler Park-Lake Claire prices were just a couple of years ago. I guess it is to the point that the neighborhoods are cross-shopped some-what.

I'm surprised Edgewood isn't at that point.

I'm guessing everything east-of-the-area-that-just-a-couple-of-years-ago-hosted-a-professional-baseball-team will soon be at that point!
