AT&T has announced a new partnership three large cities – including Atlanta – that will turn them into “Smart Cities.”A Smart City would provide residents with real-time updates, like whether a traffic light on their route is malfunctioning, give police officers information about when a gun was fired and how many bullets were used, and allow cities to remotely monitor the conditions of roads and bridges.

But will the Smart City be able to tell the difference between gunshots and fireworks? None of my neighbors can.

Doesn't iPhone or Google already offer these kinds of services?

And the thing in bold above, Savannah already has. It's called SHOTSPOTTER.

If AT&T really wants to help create a "Smart City" it could try not providing sub-par internet services.

America is pretty much in the stinker when it comes providing reliable cost-efficient Internet services compared to the rest of the Western world.

But I suppose hoping for decent internet service in this country and especially in Jorja...is akin to waiting for the second coming, I suppose...

There really should be a new neighbor orientation class on gunfire vs fireworks, not leaving stuff in your car, turning on your porch light, and not calling the cops on every AA kid.

I'd like to see Atlanta transform into the ultimate futuristic smart city, already has the potential. No now to fix the rep of it being dangerous and crime infested.
