New Falcons stadium falls behind schedule | www.ajc.com

The original completion date was for March of next year. Now it's been moved back to June.

This would mean that Atlanta United FC would have to start their inaugural season in the Georgia Dome. Damn. At least it doesn't infringe on the 2017 Falcons' season yet.

Betcha a Coke that it will.

On a side note, I've chatted with tourists from across the country in Savannah in recent weeks (as the college football and pro seasons wound down) in which mention of the new stadium came up. It's surprising to me how many "football fans" don't even know about it. But inevitably, after showing them images of what it's going to look like and hearing the price tag, their eyes bulge out and they say "Oh my god!"

That place is going to blow people's minds whenever it does open.

I figured. It's been 2 months and they've only managed to construct and put 2 steel sections of the roof in place. There will be at least 2 dozen more sections + finishing the exterior and cover + putting on the retractable portions + the scoreboard.

It really wasn't needed, but I do think it's a big improvement over the bland dome.

I read in the news that LA wants to construct a $2 billion stadium. Wow.

I heard about that. Is that just the stadium or the entire development around it?

i saw this photo in the article:

is this simply to show what the interior of the stadium looks like? because frankly, i think that's a much better open-air stadium design than the little camera-style opening that the current design has. i think it would be a lot more impressive if they could somehow make the stadium retract in the above fashion from a closed ceiling.

like, imagine if those angled panels on the outside of the stadium could shift up and form a roof.

Ga Dome has too many events only because the roof is closed like the Battle of the Bands next weekend, hs graduations, etc, etc. We need to keep revenue coming to the city

The SEC Champ, Peach Bowl, CFB Playoffs, and other events require a closed roof.

Someone better tell the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl about this closed roof requirement to host CFB Playoff games, and let the folks down in Tampa they are going to need to enclose Raymond James before the CFB championship rolls into town next January.
