Hello everyone. I don't currently live in ATL, but considering relocating there. I know that everyone complains about traffic. I was wondering outside of the normal rush hour times, how much does traffic really discourage you from participating in activities. With young kids, I know I'll be trekking around the area with whatever they are involved in, but of course I have my own life and I need to get out and participate in my interests. Is it just one of these things that you sort of get used to or would you participate in more if it weren't for the traffic.

Folks tend to dramatize traffic issues around here. It can be a pain, sure, at times. But it's not life altering as some may imply.

None, unless there's a huge event going on. Either way, I love bypassing traffic and just using MARTA. That way I won't have to worry about parking and MARTA drops you off exactly where you need to be during city events.

When I lived in the D.C. metro, I used to ride to events in the city using Metro. LOVED IT!!!! But unfortunately MARTA doesn't extend very far into the ATL suburbs so it looks like I might have to make the drive unless I drive to the closest station and then begin riding. What I worry about most is that many of the activities I'd like to participate may be ITP. With a demanding career it might be a little of a stretch.

None. I live across the street from MARTA and work across the street from MARTA.

How about those of you who live OTP and not fortunate to live close to a MARTA station?

We pretty much deal with it. I drive to a MARTA station to go intown, but on a day to day basis everything I need is no more than 10 minutes from my house and that's true for most Atlantians.

Traffic is pretty much a non-issue where we live. MARTA is close by and I use it when feasible but obviously public transportation is going to be slower for most trips.

If you make an effort to live relatively close to where you will be working (find out where in the metro area you will be working and then look for housing near where you will be working), then traffic may not necessarily be as much of a problem for you.

But if you end up having to commute (drive) to and from work everyday over an extended distance on one of metro Atlanta's major commuter spoke routes during peak hours, then traffic will more than likely be a continuing issue for you on many days.
