I didnt really mean that. I was just talking ish. Btw its not crowded imo. When i think of crowded I think of NYC and Mexico City. If someone is from a small city they will think that but for people who have traveled they know Atlanta is far from being crowded

If it bleeds it leads. They'll generate a lot more hits linking a dangerous crime to a popular/trendy area than say a piece of crap gas station or 95% of Cobb County.

Ant, referring to a landmark simply gives the broad readership some idea as to where the incident occurred. I don't think you can impute bias on the AJC for doing so.

Ant is right, headlines are written to draw the most attention. They editorialize the hell out of headlines to maximize interest, not accurately report the news. Unfortunately, too many people get their information from headlines alone and it's not helping things.

In another recent incident, a woman was shot in the face at nearby Akers Mill plaza. Since I live in the area, it's a bit unsettling to hear about these shootings

I know Chicago has more shootings than Atlanta, but I was referring to the fact that these particular incidents happened close to where I live (about 1.5 miles) in an area not associated with high crime.

All of this to highlight: Crime gets a lot of publicity. Proportionally too much. If "safety" is truly your concern, focus more on minimizing your time in a car, eating right, and exercising.

If you want to "feel safe" you probably should just stop reading the news. Many fled to the suburbs to "feel safe" so these incidents make them especially feel violated. If two were shot around Turner Field and an officer was shot on MARTA, they would just use them to reinforce their stereotypes and justify their suburban choice. But it gets harder to make that argument when two are shot in your suburb and an officer is shot on the suburban mega-highway you commute down.

My advice: Don't worry. Be happy.
