Hello,

A friend and I are visiting the Atlanta area Saturday-Tuesday from the Piedmont Triad in North Carolina. We have a fairly good idea of what we want to do, but wanted to get a couple of recommendations.

1) I have a wheat sensitivity (not just gluten but wheat in general) and my friend has a sensitivity to eggs. Does anyone know of any good restaurants around the city that are good when it comes to handling food allergies or having special menus/items for people with such problems? We have found it quite difficult to eat out in NC. The restaurants can be basically anywhere ITP or OTP in North Fulton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb. We can always go to Whole Foods since they have a hot bar with food ingredients labeled, but would like to try some good local restaurants as well: Southern food, Asian food along Buford Highway, etc. While we enjoy a nice atmosphere, we're not interested in an extremely fancy or pricey (which I'll define as >$22 for a dinner entree) place.

2) Besides Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead, what neighborhoods do you recommend that are good for walking around and taking in the vibe? We have traveled to many different countries and enjoy exploring different cities, but we also know what Southern cities are like since we live in the South. We are considering Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, EAV, Virginia-Highland, Little 5 Points, and Downtown Decatur. Are there any other neighborhoods that we should check out? Should we skip some of the neighborhoods I just listed? For a visitor, the BeltLine worth walking a segment of? We also enjoy visiting New Urbanist developments, since it is a field I am interested in. Obviously Atlantic Station is the "go-to" place for that in Atlanta, but are there any others in the area that are worth checking out, such as Brookhaven Town Center?

Thank you extremely much in advance!!

2. Beltine (Eastside trail). The Beltline is having two large events this weekend. The first event is the Beltline Bar Crawl (sold out) and the Atlanta Brunch Festival (sold out) at the Old Fourth Ward Park. While on the trail visit Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market for food options. For more walking continue over to Piedmont Park. If you want to continue walking head down 10th st to Peachtree St and go south. In closing start at Krog Street Market. Then walk the Beltline. Once on the Beltline check out Ladybird restaurant/bar and continue on the Beltline. Once you get near the Parish restaurant on your right walk along that street. This is Inman Park. Walk up and down that street and then get back on the Beltline. Keep walking until you get to the Old Fourth Ward Park. Even though its sold out try to check it out. You never kbiw you might can get a ticket to enter. Afterwards walk across the street to Ponce City Market. Once you leave PCM leave out on the second floor and follow the Beltline sign back to the Beltline. Keep walking and then go to Piedmont Park. Walk around the entire park. Then head down 10th to Peachtree St.

I would just chime in long enough to say be careful re: restaurants on Buford Highway because of those food sensitivities. If you're talking life or death type consequences if your food is messed up, you probably don't want to go somewhere where the server's English is not great. Of course, that's not going to be every single restaurant, but it would be hard to know until you get there. Just my opinion.

Don't bother going to Brookhaven.

If you're going to Krog Market, continue up Krog Street to see the Krog Tunnel and all the street art along Wylie and Tenelle Street in Cabbagetown.

While in Piedmont Park, visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It is a real treat!

If you are in Inman Park, Wisteria is a very good option. I took a friend there once and she has lots of food allergies and they were very accommodating. Wisteria Restaurant, Atlanta GA, Inman Park, Southern Savvy Cooking, Best Wine List, Chef Jason Hill

The same friend had a great dinner here too DISH DIVE

It's not life or death, but we're currently undergoing a cleansing process from those foods in our digestive system, so it's better not to take chances and slown down the cleansing. You're right, we probably will have to skip Buford Highway. Too bad . Thanks!

For our best new urbanism development (in my opinion), check out Glenwood Park. The fact that it replaced a cement factory makes it even better.
