I'd definitely look at the City of Decatur. Great schools & very progressive, but it may be tough to find a decent house for under 450k. I'd also recommend the Parkview area of Lilburn. In town, I'd recommend the Morningside, Fernbank, & Mary Lin attendance zones. I also have neighbors that commute from Peachtree City to Decatur, but it's an hour commute & this is a very conservative area, but we have noticed more LGBT families moving to the area lately because of the great schools, amenities, & the fact most residents are transplants. You'd probably find the same atmosphere in other top suburbs such as John's Creek, Alpharetta, & East Cobb.
