You do understand that cities do not operate senior citizens centers nor do they operate senior citizens transportation.

That is a function of county government.

Read through House Bill 514, and point to the section where it says the city shall be responsible for maintaining senior citizens centers and senior citizens transportation. You won't find it. I know. I've read the bill multiple times.

This is the problem with the average voter, especially the average voter in unincorporated south Fulton County.

They are appallingly ignorant about what it is municipal governments do and what it is county governments do.

Based upon your comments on this thread, you are an average south Fulton voter who knows diddly about government. So you'll have to forgive me if I view your support of cityhood with a healthy degree of skepticism.

For my esteemed unincorporated South Fulton neighbors:

In my browsing online today, I came across the following article on State Rep. Ronnie Mabra's website about South Fulton cityhood. This article asks a great question:

"Today, the Fulton County Commissioners make decisions on how our tax dollars are spent, but only 1 of 7 live in unincorporated south Fulton. Have you ever wondered why we don’t have more nice restaurants, shopping, entertainment and diverse businesses? It doesn’t mean a commissioner living in Johns Creek is not well-intentioned, but it makes a difference when that person is driving the same streets and having the same experience as their constituents."

Indeed. Here is the full article:

City in South Fulton News - Ronnie Mabra

In addition, I love the statement from the article here: "We have the most undeveloped land in Fulton County and close to the world’s busiest airport, highways and rail. That gives us a unique opportunity to develop a new city center using the latest and greatest that would attract new businesses and residents to create a unique model city with a tapestry of urban, suburban and rural areas. All this and we still have access to a major city when we want, but we get to come home to quiet and trees."

Works for me.

I appreciate your kindness in attempting to correct me, however it seems you missed my quote in an earlier post when I was speaking about the South Fulton senior transportation issue: "I have experienced the inefficiencies with the services that Fulton County provides to unincorporated South Fulton citizens personally."

I am still waiting on a simple list of options available for only South Fulton seniors from the Fulton County Department of Aging and Youth. It's been 3 months now and counting.

As a city, I am hoping we can qualify for federal funding to expand transportation options for South Fulton seniors beyond what is available today, similar to the NORC program - see the 'Custom-Tailored Transportation' section:

NORC Blueprint :: Implementation :: United Hospital Fund

Here's a link to the list of all the approved annexations. The Cascade Business Corridor was annexed that's why you see CoA police at the Wal-Mart on Fairborn Rd/Research Blvd. Hope this helps.

All of that annexation should add some population to the COA, right? I saw a couple of estimates of just a few people on some of the links but not all of them included data. One of the Cascade Corridors listed a population of 54? That sounds odd...I wonder how much this will add to the city's population, if at all?

Not much. They didn't go through with the Sandtown annexation which would've had an impact on Atlanta's population. If this vote goes through, COA will be limited to annexation in DeKalb only (I think, not really sure how cross county annexations work).

The City of Atlanta actually gained about 500 new residents with the annexations of recent. Nearly half of them were associated with the Loch Lomond neighborhood annexation.

Oh yeah, Atlanta just annexed two properties in northern DeKalb County just this past month. Annexations in another county are easy if the contiguous to the city limits are easy to do.

I wish someone would make a map of the entire city with all the recent annexations shaded in to get an overall idea of what has changed.
