So, I've been thinking recently that I may, at somepoint in the kinda nearish future, possibly try to run for a city council position.... I've been doing a bit of research on the topic and... well there's not much about the actual process by which you go to do this.

So, does anyone on here have any experience with this kinda thing?

What's the political process to get on the ballot for City Council, and what's required as prerequisite to running?

Are there any forms, and where do I find them?

Where can I find the laws pertaining to the election process?

What am I missing?

You moving back soon? Residence in the city would definitely be a prerequisite.

The wiki page seems an informative starting point:

Here's the district map:

I assume what you would do is pick a district you plan to run in, and definitely move to that district. Then maybe wait at least a year or so before officially campaigning, so you have a lot of time to meet and engage the community first, hear their input and gripes and etc. Then run on a platform that addresses their interests.

I still have a year before I graduate. My permanent residence is still in the city, since I've changed housing situation so much during the school year.

I want to get a job in the city with my major. I might could work at a few of the Aerospace Firms around, at Georgia Tech with some of their research stuff, or maybe with the Spaceport Camden people.

Ultimately, my living situation after school will be determined by what work opportunities I get. That said, i'm looking for stuff around Atlanta.

I'm familiar with the districts. My residence is in District 6, but i'll most likely not be living back at home if I come back to the city. I sorta had the idea of doing the whole 'spend a year surveying, spend a year familiarizing, then run' kinda thing in mind. I have some overarching things for the city in mind, but I recognize needing to also focus on local things where ever I end up living.

You will want to spend a year or more volunteering - there are typically a variety of boards or committees that have volunteers often appointed by the Council member.

First step is likely to be active in the NPU process. Build from there.

Yes. This.

Start at "mail room." Then build to "corner office."

I'll certainly keep an eye out about it. Volunteer and NPUs, got it.

Anyone know about the actual process?

Are you asking about how to get your name on the ballot or how to win a seat?
