If it was car-centric, it would be an improvement.....the problem is, it's not transportation-centric at all.

Too many curb cuts, and retail on the only way to connect NB 85 to NB 985. Poor planning on GDOT.

During the years that I was commuting to south Forsyth from the hinterlands out I-85 north, unless it was early morning, I'd either exit at Hamilton Mill or L'ville-Suwanee just to avoid any potential traffic in front of MoG.

The new exit at Gravel Springs should be enormously helpful, even for those coming up from Atlanta [fewer motorists coming down to the Hwy 20 exit for the mall].

So, I drove by the piece of land that this development was supposed to get built on, and it still pretty much looks like this...

I did some googling to see what the status on this is. The plans, backed by Atlanta Falcons' Julio Jones, have been scaled back by quite a bit:

The project was scaled back ALOT. I doubt it will get built with Revel 5 min south on 85... MOG has some time imo to get a project like this with descent tenants. The mall had a posh factor when it first opened but lost it, and honestly to me keeps its business from the Gainesville and further north crowd. I like what they are doing with the village but I think this is a tad too ambitious for now. Also, Isn’t there a Fuqua development taking shape over by the baseball stadium soon?

Just in time for the new exit on I-85 to start construction, looks like they're about to break ground on this project.

I hate to say it... but it sure looks a lot crummier than the initial design! If you're gonna build SOMETHING, at least build something good. Oh well.

I'm also confused by this from the earlier Curbed reporting:

Quote:
Other downsizing efforts include, among other things, nixing all plans to provide parking spots—more than 2,000 spaces were initially expected
Nixed all parking? That can't be right. I highly doubt Hilton Garden Inn signed onto a project that has no parking. Probably just the usual stellar journalism we have come to expect from Curbed...

Yeah this will be near Gravel Springs Rd on that side of the mall area, so the new exit there is critical.

meh. Thats just going to add to the problem, Gravel Springs will no longer really bypass anything if they develop that side too.

When the SugarLoaf Pkwy extension gets built - especially after it cuts through right above Mall of GA on path to P.I.B - that area is going to pretty much look like Sydney Marcus Blvd @ GA-400 / Lenox Rd... and the recent widening to I-85 will be moot.
