Thank you hbrawner for you information. I have visited Atlanta for a long weekend a few years ago. I went to look at 2 condominium apartments and loved the city. There are many neighborhoods I am unfamiliar with and all the information you and other people are giving me are very helpful. To be honest I am leaving New York City because it is New York City. The crowds, the rude people, the crazy traffic, the noise, etc.,etc. I want to live in a place that is more civilized. So when I visited Atlanta it was a lot more enjoyable for me even on my short trip there.

You apparently didn't drive much while you were in Atlanta.

You make a very good point that people in Atlanta generally are less rude than in New York.

But Atlanta drivers have a reputation for being anything but civilized out on the roads, particularly during peak traffic periods.

Atlanta drivers generally drive at speeds well above posted limits, follow too closely, drive entirely too fast for conditions (particularly during wet and slick conditions) and often are not always considerate of pedestrians.

Have you driven or ridden in a taxi in NYC? I was terrified the entire time! Honking horns, rushing through intersections with people in them....I believe there should be valium dispensers in every taxi in the city.

Traffic in Atlanta isn't fun...which is why I live in the suburbs and time my trips on 285 to non-peak hours or take back roads. The advantage of having lived here my entire life is that I can get almost anywhere I want without having to get on an interstate. There's still some beautiful scenery to enjoy when you go exploring.

I can see why you're moving from New York. Way too many people and very cold weather. I couldn't last longer than a week in NY.
