T.I.'s "Trap Muzik" album from years ago is much different and better than what they call "Trap music" now.
Agreed. The sound is actually pretty old anyway. The sound didn't start in 2003 when the cd came out.

This came out five years earlier.

Both are similar. BTW, both show the versatility and diversity the South had back in the 90s and early 2000s (basically 2000-2003). Both Southern but very different.

Gotta agree with a lot of people here. I dig the trap sound. Has to be done right for me though. Of your list I only like the Migos (stuck on Forest Whitaker) and I just start giving Future a chance. Born in the south. Something about that bounce, man....

"Trap" is absolutely a sound. Has more to do with the production, imo.

Any urban producer/musician who makes an album nowadays without the "Trap" sound is brave. It's more like experimentation if you make anything pre-Trap music sounding.

I don't know if you were agreeing with me or disagreeing with me but it sounds like you just repeated me.

That sorta true early "trap music" production was a combination of Crunk and other southern sounding beats, But the producers styles was very different than that of Lil John or 3 six. They was making it their own.

When people started saying 'trap beat" was when Lex came in who produced a lot for Gucci mane, Waka, and Rick Ross.

But his style was evolution of Shawty Red, zaytoven, Dummer boy, DJ Tump and etc. So now southern producers from this era for TI, Luda and Gucci are consider the first wave of trap producers. Even tho back then there's no term for it.

Older trap beats by fault a lot was soul sounding. older sounding lead melodies... A lot of producers use traditional analog synthesizers,

Lex era 2000- 20011 everything was heavy Classical orchestra sounding, chaotic, clashing and energetic, Digital synthesizers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o-fFVU25wk

Post 2012 everything is strongly EDM influence. Trippy synths, more complex hi hats rolls, more modern snares. Digital synthesizers more advance automation.

What I'm saying TI and Jeezy can make songs about love and pain, and make a pop track no matter the their beat. A lot of the current trap rappers are too ratchet and too one note.

Jeezy made trap or die but he also lyrical or not made introspective tracks like Dreamin, Soul Survivor, Crazy World and etc. TI is even more diverse which is how he was able to make so many me pop cross over tracks live your life, what ever you like, then tracks like Dead and gone, here I stand, plus he could be lyrical.

The curret trap rappers especially in Atlanta now are one note. So it's not that I don't like the rachet joints of Migos, Young Thugs, Future and etc I just wish there was more to them.

Man no! Not chopped and screwed! Most overrated trend. Anyone can slow down another artist's song.

It's more than that if done right. You really have to chop up and screw the song and do it in a creative but good sound way for it to be real.
