Assuming that you're applying to 4th grade, it's not an expansion year. If you're talking about entering in 5th grade, that is an expansion year, so it really depends. All of the schools are pretty competitive, but probably not as much as Westminster, etc... Sounds to me like Galloway might be a good fit based on your description, but others may know better than me.

We had very similar goals with our child. The competitive environments at some of these schools would have been too much for our current 4th grader. We applied to Galloway and Holy Innocents' for 5th, waitlisted at Galloway and accepted at HIES and we are very, very, happy. Just like when I toured preschools so many years ago, touring all of these private schools gave me a huge sense of where "the fit" would be. I know the school is excellent, I love the families that I know who are there, and the intensity level just doesn't seem as high.

Mt. Vernon, Holy Spirit, and St. Martin's are good ideas. I would add The Children's School and Springmont (montessori) to your list. Galloway is pretty hard to get into. Maybe even Trinity School, sometimes they have openings in middle elementary grades.

Are you doing a late application for this year? That could be tricky but worth a call to the schools you are interested in.

Not planning to apply out until expansion year. I plan to tour HIES, Galloway & Holy Spirit this fall to start getting a feel. I will also look at the others but need the drive to be easy.
