Even with zero traffic, it's still a 40 minute drive from PC to ATL. I just Google'd it.

I don't understand this state of denial people are in. There is nothing inherently wrong with PC, I even said it fits the criteria.

But a Roswell or Kennesaw represents a more complete picture long-term as it pertains to resources, food, entertainment, and education. This is a non-argument.

I think Peachtree City would be your best fit. It offers easy access to the airport and downtown compared to the other areas you mentioned. The schools are outstanding (every elementary, middle, and high school that serves PTC is ranked in the top 10% of the state). Also the 90 miles of cart paths make it truly unique. There are also a ton of sports programs for kids, and it is one of the best places to retire.

For commuting purposes, the northside of Peachtree City is about 20 minutes from the airport and 35-40 minutes to downtown. The south side of Peachtree City would take 10-15 minutes longer.

Definitely PTC or Tyrone which is closer in towards the airport. Both are lovely areas - Tyrone has greatly expanded its cart paths.

This, exactly. I work near the airport. Many of my good friends and colleagues live in Peachtree City. Their drive to the airport area typically takes 30-40 minutes, depending on what part of PTC they're in, and about what my drive from downtown Marietta takes. So, if it takes them that long to make it to the airport, they're looking at at least another 10 minutes to get to downtown in the morning, but usually considerably more at rush hour. I enter the southbound connector every morning at either I-20 or 166, and the northbound connector is consistently slammed from the 75/85 merge all the way past the Grady curve.

From Marietta, I usually go around the city on 285 to reach the airport (75 is usually a bit faster but 285 is a bit more sedate, believe it or not, with fewer lane changes), but when I do choose to go through the city at rush hour, it never takes me more than 30-35 minutes to reach downtown, and 25 minutes is more typical. As you said, that is simply not physically possible from PTC, even without traffic. It's now 10 pm, the traffic map is entirely green, and even now, Google Maps says it would take 41 minutes to go from PTC to Suntrust Plaza downtown.

Would PTC be a better commute to downtown than Suwanee, Acworth, far West Cobb, Alpharetta or Milton? Yes, probably. But suggesting that it would be better than close-in suburbs like Smyrna, Marietta, Sandy Springs, Roswell or Dunwoody is just plain disingenuous.

SDreams404, have you spent much time in PTC? There are a ton of things to do in Peachtree City especially for families. There is an amphitheater, 3 lakes, 3 golf courses, a world class tennis center, several protected nature preserves, a skate park, BMX park, athletic complex, softball fields. There are also numerous pocket parks, a swimming complex, and a hockey rink. Not to mention 90 miles of cart paths that connect neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, churches, and schools. The schools also rate higher overall than schools in Kennesaw and Roswell and PTC has a higher median income than both of those cities. The only thing lacking is a big regional mall and some restaurant chains, but PTC does have The Avenues, and Ashley Park in Newnan, and the Fayette Pavilion are only 15-20 minutes away.

From the northside of PTC google maps gave me 35 minutes to Suntrust and 25 minutes to the airport, so you can add 10-20 minutes to that for rush hour. East Cobb would be another great option for the OP, but home prices in PTC would probably be more affordable than the Pope/Walton areas of East Cobb or anywhere in Dunwoody. But Dunwoody and East Cobb are great options.

Thanks PTC Dad for replying to the top post so I wouldn't have to. A NON ARGUMENT?! Good lord almighty, do we need anymore evidence of a Southside bias than this?! So now it's not just that people who live on the Southside have worse lives than those oh-so-privileged Northsiders ... but we're openly declaring pity on them and implying that they must be stupid for not choosing instead to live in East Cobb?

GIVE ME A BREAK!

The quality of life in Fayette County is just as high as anywhere in Metro Atlanta. I swear sometimes I wonder if these Northside snobs have ever been past the airport?!

Thank you everyone for all the advice! Our relocation "specialist" keeps sending us houses for sale in Suwanee, that is why I mentioned it. It is making me question if our specialist even lives in Atlanta. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the places that people have mentioned in this thread. So many nice areas with good schools in the metro Atlanta area. I think Peachtree City is where we will be looking. My husband will only be at Suntrust for five years, then it's back to traveling for the rest of his career, so we will need to be close to the airport. We need a nice in between spot. I really like everything I have read about PTC. It seems like a good fit for our family.

For anyone that lives in PTC: is there any neighborhoods/communities that you like/prefer? I was looking in Kedron Hills (not many homes for sale, two to be exact) Trying to stay to the northern part of PTC. McIntosh HS area. I really need to get down to PTC and drive around and figure this all out. Unfortunately, I can't do this until my kids are out of school and my oldest child is done with graduation on June 5. Leaves me very little time. "STRESS"

If you're considering houses in Kedron Hills ... then I'm guessing your price range is pretty high huh? That's gonna make a big difference and open you up to many more options (since the newer / nicer resales in PTC are all in the luxury range). Any neighborhood along North Peachtree Parkway or Kedron Drive will impress. I'm particularly fond of the Southern Shore neighborhood, which has big houses on steep lots overlooking Lake Kedron.

PTC Dad can offer better advice.
